Institute for Micro Integration

The Institute For Micro Integration (IFM) works in the field of microsystems technology. One research focus is on the electronic assembly, interconnection and packaging technology of microsystems. Furthermore new sensors and actuators are being developed.

The Institute For Micro Integration (IFM) works in the field of electronic assembly, interconnection and packaging technology of microsystems. We focus on research and development of innovative technologies. Furthermore, new sensors and actuators are being developed.

IFM was founded in 1944 as "Institut für Zeitmesstechnik und Uhrentechnik". Successors of the first director Wilhelm Keil (1944-1963) were Günther Glaser (1963-1981), Friedrich Aßmus (1981-1998) and Heinz Kück (1998-2015). In 2015, André Zimmermann became the head of IFM. The current research areas micro technology and microsystems technology are directly derived from the original focus on time measurement and watch technology.

IFM and Hahn-Schickard, Stuttgart are connected by personal union. While IFM is dedicated to basic research, the institutes of Hahn-Schickard work in the field of applied research and development, closely interacting with industrial enterprises. Via the combination of basic research at the university institutes and applied research at Hahn-Schickard, a broad spectrum of topics for bachelor's and master's theses can be offered to students.
